Eric Hosmer, 1B, San Diego Padres

FanDuel Price: $2,700

After batting .318 with 25 home runs in 2017, Eric Hosmer has failed to live up to the lofty expectations the San Diego Padres undoubtedly had for him when they signed him for eight years. Hosmer has produced just 0.2 WAR with approximately half the season in the books. Don't expect him to add to that total Monday.

One has to give Scott Boras credit, because he was able to land his client a $144-million contract despite the fact that he is quietly a platoon hitter. Hosmer has a 86 wRC+ in his career against southpaws, including just a 24.3% fly-ball rate and 29.6% hard-hit rate in the split.

And on Monday, Hosmer just happens to be facing one of the greatest left-handed pitchers of all time in Clayton Kershaw, who has struck out 35.9% of the left-handed batters he has faced in his career.

Even though Hosmer is a big name at a very cheap price, don't think you're playing him at a value. He remains an avoid.
