It seems blasphemous to even mention Joey Votto in this article, as the Cincinnati Reds' first baseman owns a career .411 weighted on-base average (wOBA). And for most of his career he has destroyed left-handed and right-handed pitchers equally.

In 2018, though, southpaws have given him some trouble. Over 101 plate appearances, Votto sports a .289 wOBA, .096 isolated power (ISO), and 26.6% fly-ball rate.

Tonight, he will face Matt Boyd of the Detroit Tigers, so it may be best to pivot elsewhere at the first base slot. Boyd is holding lefties to a .248 wOBA with a 22.7% strikeout rate against them this season.
