Eric Hosmer, 1B, San Diego Padres

When a player nabs a monster contract, there are hefty expectations around their performance, and for the most part, Eric Hosmer has lived up to those in 2018. Over 253 plate appearances, the big lefty has posted a very strong .367 wOBA in his new digs with the San Diego Padres.

Tonight may not be so favorable, as he is faced with a tough lefty-lefty matchup against Sean Newcomb. Going back to the start of last year, Hosmer has posted a .320 wOBA, 27.3% hard-hit rate, and 21.9% fly-ball rate against left-handed pitching.

Newcomb has also held his own against same-sided bats. Over the same timeframe, the southpaw has whiffed 23.7% of lefties and allowed only a 27.4% fly-ball rate.
