Kendrys Morales, 1B, Toronto Blue Jays

Price: $2,100

Kendrys Morales' production has been, to be blunt, awful in 2018. At 34 years old, a decline in production is definitely concerning, but a deeper look into his numbers reveals some reason for optimism.

He's not making much worse contact than he has in recent years, with a 34.7% hard-hit and 18.1% soft-hit rate, both solid marks. However, his batting average on balls in play (BABIP) sits at an egregious .159. His previous career-low (minimum 100 plate appearances) was .244, he posted a .278 last year and his career-average sits at .293. BABIP is prone to variance in the short-term and for sometimes more medium-length stretches, and unless his contact numbers fall off sharply, we can expect his production to bounce back.

Morales finds himself in a good matchup for a bounce-back tonight, too, as he's on Oakland Athletics' lefty Brett Anderson. Anderson's 5.00 SIERA through three starts in 2018 is in line with the 4.84 he notched in 2017 and 5.10 in 2016, and the Toronto offense is easy to like in this spot.
