It feels a little strange to recommend a guy with a 4.40 SIERA and 16.6% strikeout rate, but here we are.

Kyle Gibson has been one of the bigger surprises through a quarter of the season, sporting a 26.5% strikeout rate that we would normally question, except that it comes with a 12.4% swinging-strike rate. While it's fair to remain skeptical given his pedestrian track record, this may not simply be smoke and mirrors.

On the other hand, even if we believe in the punchouts, there are still plenty of ways this can go awry. Gibson has also seen his walk rate rise (11.6%), and he's allowing a concerning 40.0% hard-hit rate. He's also benefiting from a .265 BABIP and 5.4% home-run-to-fly-ball rate, two numbers that are unlikely to remain that low over the long haul.

Still, Gibson draws the Milwaukee Brewers, who have struck out at a 24.3% clip against righties this season, so there could be some sneaky value here. You're certainly taking on some risk, but the savings could go a long way toward affording your favorite hitters tonight.
