3 Under-the-Radar MLB FanDuel Plays for 5/16/18
Trevor Cahill has a daunting task against the Red Sox, but he's put up elite numbers early on. Who else may go low-owned tonight?

Trevor Cahill, P, Oakland Athletics

FanDuel Price: $7,200

Using a pitcher against an offense with a 4.85 implied team total generally isn't a wise strategy, but it's a little different if that pitcher has posted a 2.55 SIERA, 33.7% strikeout rate, 6.5% walk rate, and 59.6% ground-ball rate. That looks pretty good, doesn't it? Well, that's what we have in Trevor Cahill against the Boston Red Sox.

Due to Boston's potent offense and their implied team total, Cahill will almost certainly go lower owned, even though those numbers can hang with the top arms on the slate. It's across just four starts, but if you remember his hot stretch last season, this isn't the first time we've seen Cahill put up eye-popping stats.

That said, the good times wouldn't last in 2017, and following a shoulder injury his numbers would fall off, leading him to finish with just a 4.93 ERA. Well, what do you know, the injury bug is back, and he's already coming off a DL stint entering tonight's start. Cahill is dealing with an elbow issue, and he was considered less than 100% just a few days ago.

Between the small sample size and this recent injury, there's no guarantee a dominant Cahill shows up against Boston. But on a small slate where every little lineup change matters, if he carries his recent form into tonight, he'll be a steal as one of the cheapest arms.
