3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 5/11/18
Paul Goldschmidt can go beast-mode any given night, but he isn't worth the gamble tonight against Max Scherzer.

Paul Goldschmidt, 1B, Arizona Diamondbacks

FanDuel Price: $4,100

Paul Goldschmidt is off to a bit of a slow start to the season, and some of the peripherals indicate that it isn't just bad luck. His swinging-strike rate and strikeout rate are up to 11.0% and 29.9%, respectively. And his hard-hit rate is down from 44.3% to 35.4%

He's also been much better against southpaws than right-handed pitchers in his career. His strikeout rate rises from 19.2% to 23.4%, and his wRC+ drops from 170 to 134. Meanwhile, his hard-hit rate tumbles from 47.4% to 38.5%.

Now these are still incredible numbers, and we should certainly feel comfortable using Goldschmidt against poor right-handed pitchers. But, on Friday, he squares off against on of the best in Max Scherzer.

Scherzer has quietly been even more ridiculous than normal this year, with an insane 17.4% swinging-strike rate. He's also been equally effective against right-handed batters in his career, holding them to a .255 wOBA with a whopping 32.8% strikeout rate. With so many factors working against Goldschmidt, he isn't worth rostering at a price above $4,000.
