We have a few strong top-end arms on today's slate, but what makes Jacob deGrom really stand out is his matchup with the Padres.

San Diego's 85 wRC+ against right-handed pitching ranks 23rd in the majors, and especially appealing for fantasy purposes is their 28.4% strikeout rate -- the highest in the majors. Their 3.18 implied total is also the lowest on tonight's slate.

Of course, without strong numbers of his own, this matchup wouldn't push deGrom ahead of the other studs. But his numbers this season are more than enough to create a ton of appeal here.

No stranger to fanning hitters, deGrom posted strikeout rates north of 27.0% in both 2015 and 2017. Through five starts in 2018, he's on pace to top his previous career-high with a huge 31.5%. Having faced 127 batters, the sample size is starting to become pretty significant, especially for a stat that stabilizes more quickly, like swinging-strike rate -- where he's also on pace for a career-high (14.5%).

His 2.79 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) is also on pace to be a career-best (previously 2.99), and he combines ridiculous production with what might be the best fantasy matchup for right-handed pitchers.
