With a -237 moneyline, the New York Yankees are the biggest favorites on Thursday's main slate, and the second-biggest favorites for the entire day, leaving the Baltimore Orioles with the slate's lowest implied total (3.26 runs).

Masahiro Tanaka finished 2017 with a stellar 3.52 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA), which is tops among the starters on the slate, while his 25.8% strikeout rate puts him in second. He was particularly good at getting hitters to whiff, ranking third among all qualifying pitchers with a 15.1% swinging-strike rate.

The Orioles have been awful against right-handed pitching to start the season, ranking 29th in wRC+ in the split and striking out at the third-highest rate in the majors. Last season they were below average in wRC+ versus righties and struck out at a top-10 rate in 2017, so this is a prime matchup for Tanaka.
