Fantasy Baseball: 9 Players That Are Being Overvalued

A couple weeks ago, I gave you three reasons why you should avoid drafting Shohei Ohtani at his current ADP.

Ohtani is currently the 23rd pitcher being selected in fantasy drafts at 74.12 overall (a 6th-round selection in 12-team leagues), and our projections have him as the 27th-best pitcher for 2018. But there are red flags.

The Japanese phenom has struggled a bit on the mound this spring, having given up 10 runs in 6 innings of work - albeit with 16 strikeouts - and said this week that he's still getting used to the ball and the mound. The Los Angeles Angels are going with a six-man rotation, so he's likely to make a maximum of 25-27 starts this season. Offensively, he's shown mixed results at the plate, something not unexpected given his part-time status as a big league hitter.

There are likely going to be some growing pains for Ohtani, and who knows how long they'll last. He's a high-risk, high-reward player, and punting on him given his current ADP is probably the smarter move.
