While Rich Hill has regained his punchout prowess -- he has a 32.3% strikeout rate since the All-Star break -- and gives you a sizable discount off of tonight's top pitchers, Max Scherzer and Corey Kluber, it's difficult to see a path to him keeping pace against the Detroit Tigers.
Even in the post-J.D. Martinez era, the Tigers remains a hard-hitting bunch, with an active roster sporting a 39.1% hard-hit rate against southpaws this season. To make matters worse, they've also maintained a 17.4% strikeout rate, and are rolling out a lineup of almost entirely right-handed bats. The Tigers have a 4.24 implied team total.
Low pitch counts also continue to hamper Hill's upside. The 101 pitches he threw in his last outing marked only the second time he's hit 100 pitches all season. He's failed to make it through six innings in three of his last five starts.
