3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 8/9/17

Alex Wood continues to have velocity concerns and has just a 14.9% strikeout rate over his last four starts, making him a guy to fade in DFS tonight.

It's one of those days when the pickings are slim on the mound, especially with Alex Wood ($9,300) no longer looking like a sure thing anymore due to his declining velocity. Instead, your top play may very well be Masahiro Tanaka ($9,300). Since the beginning of July, Tanaka has a 31.6% strikeout rate and 2.64 xFIP across his last six starts. He gets a neutral matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Alternatively, Collin McHugh ($8,600) has performed reasonably well in three starts with a 4.38 SIERA and 24.6% punchout rate, and is in a plum spot versus the Chicago White Sox.

Trevor Cahill ($6,500) has more or less been a disaster over his past three starts (9.00 ERA), but he still has a 3.85 SIERA, 25.3% strikeout rate and 55.4% ground-ball rate this season. He won't have to deal with the designated hitter on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals, giving him sneaky upside at a basement level price.

As always, it's important to narrow down your short list of DFS players to target and avoid the suboptimal plays who are overpriced or in tough spots. Let's check out three guys to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.
