3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 8/3/17

Alex Wood has been sensational this season, but his reduced velocity is enough of a concern to fade him in DFS tonight.

For the second straight day, the baseball gods pulled the rug out from under us. On Tuesday, pitching was a heaping dumpster fire, and then last night a good chunk of bats went silent, leaving some pitiful cash lines in many a FanDuel contest. Let's hope for some more predictable outcomes this evening.

Pitching is once again limited, with mighty Corey Kluber ($11,100) standing out as a man among boys despite facing the New York Yankees. Since coming off the disabled list at the beginning of June, Kluber has struck out at least 8 batters in all 11 starts, good for a straight bonkers 41.1% strikeout rate. Add that to a 1.72 xFIP, 4.8% walk rate, and 22.4% hard-hit rate over that span, and you can see why we should feel safe rolling him out, regardless of opponent. Furthermore, the Yankees have scuffled to an 89 wRC+ since the All-Star break.

After that, the arms get a little dicey, including 2017 sensation Alex Wood ($9,600) -- more on him later, though. Trevor Cahill ($7,400) has struggled in his past two starts, but his punchout upside (26.2% rate) puts him in play for tournaments as a value option.

Onto our task at hand -- it's important to narrow down your short list of DFS players to target and avoid the suboptimal plays who are overpriced or in tough spots. Let's check in on three players to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.
