Max Scherzer has been absurd this season, ranking second among qualifying pitchers in both strikeout rate (35.1%) and swinging-strike rate (15.6%) while posting a very strong 2.72 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA). He has been especially deadly recently, with 10-plus strikeouts in each of his last four games. His swinging-strike rate jumped up to an even more absurd 16.8% in that span.

He doesn't draw an ideal matchup against the New York Mets, who have a low strikeout rate (19.1%) and 107 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, but the Washington Nationals are still -141 favorites, and the Mets' 3.47 implied total is Friday's lowest mark by a pretty sizable margin.

Scherzer has been nasty enough to remain very dangerous even in a tough matchup, and he projects as the top-scoring pitcher of the day.
