If you check out J.A. Happ's peripheral numbers, he certainly has the look of a guy to use against the Oakland Athletics, a team striking out against lefties 25.9% of the time. Happ has a 3.09 SIERA, 26.4% strikeout rate and 3.5% walk rate.

The trouble is, those fine numbers have come through just four starts and 20 innings pitched. He's only thrown five-plus innings once so far, and went just 81 pitches in his last outing, his first since going on the DL in mid-April. He'll probably get a longer leash tonight, but it's tough to trust him throwing deep into the game.

Happ also has a career 20.0% strikeout rate. It's unlikely that at age 34, he's suddenly found a way to boost it to an elite level. This is probably all small sample size noise that we can ignore tonight.
