High-priced pitching isn't especially appealing today, and personally I don't plan on paying up at the position. However, if you're looking for a stud pitching option, Gerrit Cole is a really interesting play.

After a down year in 2016, Cole's numbers look at lot more like the solid ones he posted in 2014 and 2015 again. His skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) is down to 3.47, while his strikeout rate is up to 23.5% and his walk rate is down to 5.0%. His swinging-strike rate also sits at a career-high 10.7% to go along with a bump in velocity on nearly every pitch type.

His matchup is a real concern, taking on a Washington Nationals team that hits right-handed pitching well, but Cole and the Pittsburgh Pirates are -129 favorites, and his improved strikeout ability gives him some nice upside.
