4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 5/9/17

Justin Verlander had a stellar 2016, but he has some worrisome peripherals so far this season. Who else should you avoid tonight in MLB DFS?

After much uncertainty for most of the evening, last night's Coors game was eventually postponed, much to one's dismay or delight depending on how you were playing the situation. Hopefully you didn't have any exposure! But today is a new day, with the forecast looking decidedly better.

In cash, we have the decision between paying up for the always electric Max Scherzer ($11,600) or getting a few dollars back for Carlos Carrasco ($10,300), who gets the sputtering Toronto Blue Jays and their woeful 72 wRC+ against righties.

If you want to move further down in tournaments, though, there's a plethora of upside options in guys like Robbie Ray ($8,600), Drew Pomeranz ($8,300) and Charlie Morton ($7,800), all of whom have strong strikeout rates on the season.

However, the best potential bang for your buck might be Julio Urias ($7,300), who has an ugly SIERA through two starts (6.95), but had a 25.0% strikeout rate in 2016. He often struggles with control and doesn't pitch deep into games, so there's plenty of risk, but fellow lefty Alex Wood made mincemeat of this same Pittsburgh Pirates team yesterday, fanning 11 in five scoreless innings.

With 14 games on the main slate, you need not just look at Coors for hitters. Among the highlights to attack are the ageless Bartolo Colon (40.2% hard-hit rate), Wily Peralta (4.47 SIERA), Ubaldo Jimenez (5.80 SIERA), and Mike Pelfrey (6.26 SIERA). We also get a visit from old friend Chris Young, who gave up a 41.6% hard-hit rate last year.

It looks to be a fun slate, but as always we need to narrow things down a bit. Let's look at four guys to avoid tonight.
