4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 5/1/17
Julio Teheran may have a 3.38 ERA, but his peripheral stats suggest some regression is on the way. Who else should you avoid in Monday's daily fantasy baseball contests?

Vincent Velasquez, SP, Philadelphia Phillies

FanDuel Price: $7,600

If you played daily fantasy baseball last year, you more than likely used Vincent Velasquez at some point. He was the quintessential boom-or-bust tournament play, reaching at least seven strikeouts nine times, including a 16-punchout, complete game gem.

He hasn't quite shown that upside so far in 2017, and tonight doesn't look like the best bet for that to change.

Velasquez has a 4.49 SIERA, and has struggled with walks (12.6% rate). The strikeouts are still there (23.2% rate), but it's not as good as last year (27.6%), and his swinging-strike rate is down (9.3%).

Worse yet, early weather forecasts indicate the wind could be blowing out in Wrigley, with gusts up to 30-plus mph. So the park could be doing its best Coors Field impression.

Instead, the weather makes Velasquez a great pitcher to attack with the Chicago Cubs, as shown by an elevated 6.17 implied team total.
