With both Carlos Martinez and Noah Syndergaard off today's slate, we're left pretty thin when it comes to top-end pitching options. Jon Lester finds himself in a strong spot, though, and is a strong option in terms of a safe floor and high ceiling.

The Chicago Cubs are the day's second-biggest favorites (-150 moneyline), and may end up as the biggest depending on how the line moves in the New York Mets game now that Syndergaard isn't pitching. The Pittsburgh Pirates' 3.64 implied total is also Wednesday's fourth-lowest.

The Pirates have an above-average strikeout rate (21.7%) as well as a shaky 81 wRC+ against left-handed pitching to start the season. While his numbers are slightly down from where they were in 2016, Lester has still had a pretty solid start to the year with a 3.72 SIERA and 21.7% strikeout rate.
