Carlos Gomez has revitalized his career as a Texas Ranger, and he should have plenty of big games ahead of him. Today isn't likely to be one of them.

The Rangers are facing Jesse Chavez, a name which probably doesn't strike much fear in anyone's heart, but he has pretty strong numbers against right-handed hitters. Last season, he had a 23.1% strikeout rate versus righties along with a 4.1% walk rate. He did give up hard hits 34.4% of the time, but his career rate is a few notches lower at 32.1%.

The trouble for Gomez is he struck out versus right-handers 29.2% of the time time last season and 24.1% across his career. His hard-hit rate against same-sided hurlers is just under 30% the last two seasons, as well.

Furthermore, the game is being played in Angel Stadium, a park known for suppressing runs.

In all, there isn't a ton to get excited about here for Gomez -- or other Texas righties, for that matter -- on a day with plenty of better pitching matchups to exploit.
