Jeff Samardzija, SP, San Francisco Giants

It says something when Jeff Samardzija is the highest priced pitcher!

Last year, Samardzija was about as league average as they come. He had a 4.13 SIERA along with a 20.1% strikeout rate and 6.5% walk rate. His ground-ball rate was 46.5%, and his hard-hit rate was 31.5%. Not too bad, but not too exciting either.

But even on today's small slate, average doesn't cut it. Marcus Stroman ($7,500) is a ground-ball machine and facing a Tampa Bay Rays team that struck out 24.2% against righties last year. Matt Harvey ($8,300), Blake Snell ($7,700), and Robbie Ray ($7,600) have higher strikeout upside.

Furthermore, Samardzija is going up against a solid Arizona Diamondbacks lineup in a hitter's park with an implied team total just under five runs.

Outside of being contrarian against highly-owned Diamondbacks stacks, look elsewhere for your pitcher tonight.
