Pimlico Horse Racing Picks for Friday 5/20/22

Starting at 11:30 p.m. EST, we have 14 races at Pimlico Race Course. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Race 10 is the $150K Miss Preakness Stakes for 3-year-old fillies sprinting 6 furlongs. The favorite Under the Stars (8/5) has been scratched, and the numberFire data picks Lady Scarlet (6/1) to win and moves Happy Soul (5/2) up to finish runner-up.

Lady Scarlet has plenty of early pace and has won 2-of-3 at the distance, according to Guaranteed Tip Sheet.

Happy Soul won a pair of minor stakes including in Feb. off a long layoff. She then tried Grade 1 company and tired after pressing the pace to finish sixth last month at Keeneland.

Vindictive, Race 12

FanDuel Racing Odds: 2/1

Race 12 is the $300K Pimlico Special Stakes with 11 runners racing 1 3/16 miles. The favorite Vindictive (2/1) is the top pick, according to numberFire’s data.

Vindictive (2/1) ran the highest, last race speed figure (104), according to Guaranteed Tip Sheet. Irad Ortiz, Jr. rides for Todd Pletcher, and he’s won 3-of-6 starts and hit triple-digit speed figures in three races.

Capocastello (8/1) and Untreated (7/2) are projected to finish in the money by numberFire.

Interstatedaydream and Adare Manor, Race 13

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1 and 5/2

Race 13 is the $250K Black-Eyed Susan for 3-year-old fillies racing 1 1/8 miles. The numberFire projections like the favorite Adare Manor (5/2) to prevail in the 13 filly field in front of Favor (8/1) and Interstatedaydream (6/1).

Interstatedaydream is one to watch as she has done very little wrong. She rallied to finish second in the Grade 2 Adirondack despite a very poor start. Then off a layoff, she came back with an 8-length win in the Grade 1 Ashland at short odds.

Adare Manor is expected to be a major player having won 2-of-3 starts this year and just missing by a neck last out in the Santa Anita Oaks as a heavy favorite.

Luna Bella (9/2) is on a 5-race winning streak with impressive wins, while Distinctlypossible (6/1) has Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding for Chad Brown having finished second in a Grade 1 race in her second career start last fall and winning last month in her 2022 debut.
