Ethereal Road Slowest Horse in the field for Kentucky Derby

Trained by D. Wayne Lucas and ridden by jockey Luis Contreras, Etherreal Road was installed at 30/1 on the morning line odds breaking from the far outside post No. 20. A poor draw for a horse that drew into the field with Un Ojo coming up with a bruised foot, and Ethereal Road will likely have the longest pari-mutuel odds when the horses go to post for the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby.
Ethereal Road makes his third start in four weeks, and failed to hit the board in his last two starts with his best finish fourth in the Lexington Stakes.
Ethereal Road's best Beyer Speed Figure is 84 and best BRIS Speed Rating is 91 - both slowest in the Derby field.
Tiz the Bomb did post a 101 BRIS Speed Rating in one of his races, but that was on turf, which is his best surface. He'll need to improve his speed and performance on dirt, and his best Beyer Speed Figure is 93.
History shows that 27 of the last 30 Kentucky Derby winners (90.0%) have entered the race with a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of at least 95. And 18 of the past 22 Kentucky Derby winners (81.8%) had a BRIS Speed Rating of at least 100 prior to the race.
