HORSE RACING

Keeneland Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 4/24/22

Starting at 1:00 p.m. EST, we have 9 races at Keeneland. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets on FanDuel Racing.

As always, check the program for racing information and scratches and changes. Also, watch the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Race 4 is a starter Allowance for older horses going 1 1/16 miles. A most likely winner of the day is the favorite and top pick of numberFire, Exulting (9/5). Suggested (6/1) and Can’t Hide From Me (8/1) are also projected to hit the board.

Exulting breaks from the outside No. 8 post for EPO trainer Mike Maker with the meets top jockey Tyler Gaffalioine riding. Exulting is a gelding by Tapit. He’s won 10 times, including at this level and distance in January pressing the pace, and Exulting has finished in-the-money in half his 42 starts.

Can’t Hide From Me has also won 10 times, including last month with a 96 speed figure over the All Weather track at Turfway. Makes his debut at Keeneland.

Race 6 is a high end Claiming race for fillies and mares at 7 furlongs. The numberFire data projects the favorites Fabricate (2/1) and Fire On Time (9/5) to decide the race for the win and exacta payout.

Fire On Time’s speed figures stand out as she drops down to claiming ranks for the first time after winning in Allowance company two races back.

Haunt and Natural Power, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 12/1 and 6/1

Race 7 is a high end Allowance sprint for older horses at 5 ½ furlongs on the turf. The numberFire algorithm projects Turned Aside (10/1) and Natural Power (6/1) to outkick the favorite Maven (3/1), who is conditioned by top trainer Wesley Ward.

Ward has won 40% of his horses starts as the meets top trainer, and Maven is a gelding by Triple Crown winner American Pharaoh who has won 4-of-10 starts but is making his 2022 debut.

Turned Aside has not won since 2020, but has been facing graded stakes competition. Leading jockey Luis Saez rides. Natural Power has won 2-of-3 starts this year including last month from off the pace in a short sprint showing strong late speed.

Haunt (12/1) is a consistent sprinter who can come from off the fast pace of lead runners to challenge with strong stretch rider Joel Rosario aboard.
