Gulfstream Park Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 4/2/22

There are 14 races at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, including nine stakes and the $1 million Florida Derby. Which horses should you bet on at FanDuel Racing?

Starting at 11:30 a.m. EST, we have 14 races at Gulfstream Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets on FanDuel Racing.

As always, check the program for racing information and scratches and changes. Also, watch the weather and track conditions with potential rain later in the day.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Kathleen O., Race 12

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/5

Race 12 is the $250,000 Gulfstream Park Oaks for 3-year-old fillies racing 1 1/16 miles. The top 4 finishers earn qualifying points for the Kentucky Oaks. The numberFire algorithm likes the two favorites, Kathleen O. (4/5) on the outside No. 7 post, and Goddess of Fire (9/5), with the meets leading jockey Luis Saez riding for top trainer Todd Pletcher.

Guaranteed Tip Sheet also likes the favorite Kathleen O., who is undefeated in three starts with her last two in dominating fashion. The focus is on speed, and Kathleen O. has it with balanced distribution and a 95 speed figure in her last graded stakes start.

Goddess of Fire will come from off the pace in her first start at Gulfstream. She won last August, and her two recent starts were runner-up finishes against a stronger field, outside of Kathleen O., who is a single on top and late Pick 3.

Scarlett Sky and Gray’s Fable, Race 13

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1 and 5/1

Race 13 is the $100,000 Appleton Stakes for older horses racing 1 mile on the turf. The numberFire projected order of finish is Gray’s Fable (5/1), English Bee (7/2) and Scarlett Sky (6/1).

Phantom Currency is also undefeated in two starts at Gulfstream and has sharp training works.

English Bee improved noticeably early in his last race, and Gray’s Fable hit the board in 4-of-5 at Gulfstream and 6-of-7 at the distance, according to Guaranteed Tip Sheet.

Scarlett Sky is lightly raced and gets a great setup in a field full of speed. Top jockey Joel Rosario returns to ride, which he did when Scarlett Sky won four races back.

White Abarrio and Charge It, Race 14

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1 and 7/2

Race 14 is the $1 million Florida Derby for 3-year-olds racing 1 1/8 miles. The top 4 finishers earn qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby. ThenumberFire data likes Pappacap (10/1) to pull the upset over White Abarrio (3/1) and Simplification (5/2), who won the Fountain of Youth and has Jose Ortiz riding.

Guaranteed Tip Sheet also likes White Abarrio and notes he won easily at Gulfstream in the Holy Bull and has two bullet works since. Horse Racing Nation’s Super Screener projects another move forward off his impressive win in the Holy Bull.

Charge It (7/2) broke his maiden with the highest last race speed figure and also has bullet works in the morning ahead of his stakes debut. A top horse to include in win wagers according to the Super Screener.

Pappacap is a presser, and does own the top pace figures among his rivals, according to Horse Racing Nation. He faded to 8th in the Risen Star last race after chasing winner Epicenter, the current points leader on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

Classic Causeway (7/2) is clearly capable running on the lead having won his last two graded stakes starts including the Tampa Bay Derby.
