HORSE RACING

Gulfstream Park Horse Racing Picks for Thursday 2/17/22

Starting at 12:30 p.m. EST, we have 9 races at Gulfstream Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Radiant Gem, Race 3

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2

Race 3 is a Maiden Claimer for three-year-old fillies going 1 1/16 miles on the turf. The numberFire data projects Radiant Gem (7/2) to outduel favorite Openthegate (5/2) and Omixochitl (3/1). Guaranteed Tip Sheet has Radiant Gem as a best bet.

Radiant Gem makes her fifth start and ran her best race over Gulfstream’s all-weather track when finishing second n December. A better try is expected with first-time Lasix on the turf with top jockey Jose Ortiz riding her from the rail for a new trainer.

Lookinlikeaqueen and Centsless Drama, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1 and 7/2

Race 7 is an Allowance race for older state-bred fillies and mares going one mile on the turf. The projected order of finish, according to numberFire’s algorithm, is favorite Centsless Drama (7/2) followed by Lookinlikeaqueen (4/1) and Lady Jae (5/1).

Centsless Drama is ridden by leading jockey Irad Ortiz, who had her on the lead for 3/4 of a mile last race three weeks ago before finishing 3 lengths behind the winner as the second choice. Good form and a better chance this time.

Lookinlikeaqueen is racing for the optional $16,000 tag and has new connections. She has a 4-furlong bullet workout in place and won over this turf from off the pace.

Loriloupies and Bramble Berry, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 2/1 and 8/1

Race 8 is a stronger Optional Claiming race for older fillies and mares going 6 1/2 furlongs. numberFire projects favorite Loriloupies (2/1) to win. She has four wins and two runner-up finishes in 12 starts and is coming off a fifth-place finish in her graded stakes debut. In the race prior in November, she posted her fastest ever speed rating (101) when finishing third. A jockey change to top rider Irad Ortiz, Jr. for EPO trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr.

Bramble Berry (8/1) offers a chance to hit the board at a bigger price. Her work tab is empty the past month, but she did have a strong 5-furlong bullet mid-January. Bramble Berry showed good frontrunning speed when winning back-to-back races over this track last October.
