Gulfstream Park Horse Racing Picks for Friday 1/28/22

Starting at 12:30 p.m. EST, we have nine races at Gulfstream Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing.

As always, check for scratches and changes and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Starting Up and Outlaw Kid, Race 4

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/1 and 6/1

Race 4 is a Maiden Special Weight for three-year-olds sprinting 5 furlongs on the turf. The favorite and top pick according to numberFire's algorithm is Never Say Know (3/1) with top jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding.

But Starting Up (5/1) from the outside No. 9 post and debut runner Outlaw Kid (6/1) offer value, according to Top Race Reports, while the meet's leading jockey, Luis Saez, rides High Front (4/1), who races with first-time Lasix.

Starting Up was sidelined following an okay debut where he was given the race by his trainer. Now moving to the grass, look for a good break and more speed. Trainer George Weaver picks a good race to debut Outlaw Kid, who doesn't face too much, including favorite Never Say Know, who is 0-for-8 but did run his fastest race last out, carrying his speed near the front for six furlongs before fading to finish sixth.

Mizzen and Katiesdreamgirl, Race 4

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2 and 3/1

Race 7 is a Starter Allowance race for older fillies and mares sprinting 6 furlongs. The top pick according to numberFire's data is the favorite, Mizzen (5/2). She's sired by Street Sense and should get an ideal trip running outside.

Mizzen posted her best speed figure of 86 when winning here last fall. She should hold off numberFire’s second choice, Bargainaire (9/2), and Katiesdreamgirl (3/1), who ran pretty well here a month ago and fits well class-wise to run on late cutting back in distance.

Helping Lisa D and Keeper of Time, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1 and 5/2

Race 8 is a minor stakes for older fillies and mares racing 1 mile and 70 yards on the all-weather Tapeta surface. This race is one of the mandatory eight races for Friday’s Day 1 of the NTRA National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) held at Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The top choice of numberFire is Helping Lisa D (6/1) with leading jockey Paco Lopez to edge numberFire runner-up and favorite, Keeper of Time (5/2), who is on the rail.

Keeper of Time adds Lasix for the first time and has a trio of sharp works in place to tell us she’s ready for the added distance. Helping Lisa D is a seven-time winner who enters off a pair of wins, including a minor stakes at a mile over the Gulfstream dirt last time out in November.

Hallawallah (5/1) -- with solid speed figures and graded stakes competition -- is one to include in exacta and trifecta wagering with Irad Ortiz, Jr. aboard.
