Santa Anita Park Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 5/30/21

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 4:00 p.m. EST, we have nine races at Santa Anita Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Barsini Road and Erebus, Race 2

FanDuel Racing Odds: 9/5 and 10/1

Race 2 is a Maiden Special Weight for baby two-year-old Cal-breds sprinting 4 1/2 furlongs. numberFire projects Erebus (10/1) to upset Barsini Red (9/5), who should break best with strong gate jockey Abel Cedillo. Barsini Red finished a distant second in her debut a month ago and has come back with a pair of solid works. Rock N Rye (5/2) finished just a half-length behind Barsini Red in that last race.

Erebus makes his debut and is a son of Stay Thirsty, and Guaranteed Tip Sheet notes he has been a solid sire who finished second in the 2011 Belmont Stakes and won multiple Grade 1 races, including the Travers Stakes.

Takeittothebank (12/1) finished much further back in that same race but can improve and gets a weight break with apprentice jockey. Noticeable improvement can happen quickly for these two-year-olds in their second start.

Deise Delight and Keep Dancing, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1 and 5/2

Race 7 is an Optional Claiming race for fillies and mares going 1 mile on the turf. numberFire's algorithm projects Goodtingscomeinpink (7/2) to win in front of Unbreakable (2/1). Keep Dancing (5/2) is the other viable favorite. Unbreakable has top turf rider Umberto Rispoli in the irons, and she finished third last time out at this level in her first start against winners.

Goodtingscomeinpink has three runner-up finishes in four starts this year and was third last race three weeks ago as the favorite in a one-mile race.

Keep Dancing broke her maiden from off the pace in her seventh start three weeks ago, but speed is still a concern.

Deise Delight (4/1) has leading jockey jockey Flavien Prat riding, and she’s the only horse in the field running for the optional $50,000 claiming tag. Deise Delight won a maiden race two weeks ago at Golden Gate and has more speed than Unbreakable.

Soothsay and Lady Aces, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/5 and 4/1

Race 8 is the $200K Grade II Summertime Oaks for three-year-old fillies going 1 1/16 miles. Pacesetters have won more than a third of the dirt routes during the Santa Anita meet since December.

numberFire projects favorite Soothsay (4/5) to win, and Soothsay took the Santa Anita Oaks last month. She’s 2-for-2 and the fastest in the field by the numbers, according to Horse Racing Radar. Flavien Prat rides her again for trainer Richard Mandella.

Crazy Beautiful (6/5) is the projected runner-up, per our numbers, and has won 3-of-8 starts with three runner-up finishes. She missed badly in her last outing a month ago in her sixth straight graded stakes start. Maiden sprint winner Lady Aces (4/1) can get to the lead from the inside post and should improve in her third start. She has a chance to pull an upset.
