Santa Anita Park Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 5/9/21

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 4:00 p.m. Eastern, we have nine races at Santa Anita Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Keep Dancing and Wishtheyallcouldbe, Race 1

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/5 and 4/1

Race 1 is a Maiden Special Weight for state bred fillies and mares running a route at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. The numberFire data projects Wishtheyallcouldbe (4/1) to upset Keep Dancing (7/5) and Slew South (5/2).

Keep Dancing had some mediocre efforts before transferring to trainer Kristin Mulhall. She just missed last month when rallying from off the pace to finish second -- and well in front of Slew South. Added ground looks to be right for this effort and improvement.

Same for Wishtheyallcouldbe, who strings races together for the first time as a 3-year-old. The added distance should help, along with top turf rider Umberto Rispoli. Top Race Reports likes these two runners in this race.

Speedy Justice, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/5

Race 5 is a Optional Claiming Allowance race for older horses going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf. The favorite will get bet heavily and is the top pick of numberFire and Top Race Reports.

Speedy Justice (4/5) is 2-for-2 and makes his 2021 debut breaking from the outside No. 7 post for trainer Bob Baffert. Speed Justice is ideally spotted and the best option in a stalk and pounce effort to win.

Leggs Galore and Warren's Showtime, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1 and 6/5

Race 7 is the $100K Fran's Valentine Stakes for older state-bred fillies and mares racing 1-mile on the turf. The numberFire algorithm projects Leggs Galore (4/1) and Warren's Showtime (6/5) to decide this race, and Top Race Reports agrees.

Leggs Galore has won 5-of-8 starts including a pair of minor stakes this year. She stretches out to her longest distance but looks right and should be running up front and have an extra gear turning for home under EPO trainer Phil D'Amato.

Warren's Showtime is a warrior, and she won here four times last year. She's finished third in all three starts this year including a pair of graded stakes races. Warren's Showtime will make this a race from off the pace.
