Santa Anita Park Horse Racing Picks for Friday 5/7/21

There are eight races on Friday at Santa Anita. Which horses should you bet on at FanDuel Racing?

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 4:00 p.m. ET, we have nine races at Santa Anita Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

At the Spa, Race 2

FanDuel Racing Odds: 2/1

Race 2 is a Maiden Special Weight, the second baby race of the season for state-bred 2-year-old fillies sprinting 4 1/2 furlongs. The top pick according to numberFire’s data is Munny Penny (5/2), with the favorite At the Spa (2/1) a main challenger.

Munny Penny is interesting with her works and top jockey Flavien Prat riding. But At The Spa is working lights out for her debut according to Top Race Reports, who has seen this one personally and is sired by Outwork. She can do just that against her rival on her first try.

Brickyard Ride, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/5

Race 7 is an Allowance race for older state-bred horses sprinting 6 furlongs. There's not much in here, as Brickyard Ride (4/5) is the best of the five runners and is the top pick by numberFire’s projections.

The speedball has won 7-of-14 starts including 2-of-3 this year with a Grade II win over the track when firing a 108 speed figure. The FanDuel Racing implied odds suggests Brickyard Ride has a 54% chance to win. No value, but consider inclusion in the late Pick 3.

Castle, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 2/1

Race 8 is a Claimer for older horses sprinting 6 furlongs on the Turf. The numberFire algorithm projects Bedrock (9/5) to win ahead of Castle (2/1) and longshot Bad Beat (15/1).

Castle makes the most sense in a race of regressing types on the front end. That handicapping lesson is part of so much more at WCHR through Top Race Reports, which notes Castle is stringing races together for the first time, and good health opens the door for better efforts. Ideal placement is noted against a weaker field by trainer Mark Glatt, and Castle possesses the best ‘speed and stick’. Glatt’s horses have finished first or second in 48 of 102 starts at the meet.
