Santa Anita Park Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 4/10/21

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 4:00 p.m. EST, we have nine races at Santa Anita Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Moon Mischief, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 9/5

Race 5 is a Maiden Claiming sprint at 5 1/2 furlongs. The top pick according to numberFire's date is Count Alexei (8/1) over Prince Magician (2/1). The favorite in a competitive field of six runners is Moon Mischief (9/5), who has leading jockey Flavien Prat riding.

Moon Mischief finished fifth as co-favorite against better runners last race in her first try off a long layoff. Prince Magician ran poorly on the turf last race and returns to dirt, where she finished third in front of Moon Mischief in February. Count Alexei was awful in her 2021 debut but posted a solid 92 speed figure when running on the lead before fading to fifth here last October.

Bold Endeavor, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2

Race 8 is the featured Allowance race for older horses, and it's going 1 mile. The FanDuel Racing odds gives Bold Endeavor (5/2) a 25% implied win probability. He’s ridden by Flavien Prat, and he was nominated for last month's Santa Anita Handicap but instead ran in a similar grade Allowance race that day, finishing a close second as the favorite to a stronger, proven runner. Guaranteed Tip Sheet picks Bold Endeavor to win as a best bet, and the numberFire algorithm has Bold Endeavor finishing second behind Taishan (4/1).

Taishan has recorded triple-digit speed figures in a graded stakes race. He should bounce back off what was a poor 2021 debut in an Allowance race here two months ago.

Royal Act (10/1) looked like a Derby horse last year when finishing second in the Robert B. Lewis. He won up north in December with a triple-digit speed figure and finished fourth in an Allowance race here two months ago.

Medusa’s Gaze and Ensleys Dream, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1 and 5/1

Race 9 concludes the day at The Great Race Place. It's a 6-furlong sprint for weaker Maidens with 12 three-year-old fillies trying to break through. numberFire's algorithm has Ensleys Dream (5/1) winning in front of Medusa’s Gaze (4/1) and longshot Seasons to Remember (20/1). Ensleys Dream has three runner-up finishes in five starts but was fifth last race as favorite and has a good work tab since.

Medusa’s Gaze has been knocking on the door, and she has the speed to break through, per Horse Racing Radar, with a pace-pressing and stalking trip. She’s finished in the money in four of five starts.
