HORSE RACING

Gulfstream Park Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 1/24/21

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 12:05 p.m. EST, we have 11 races at Gulfstream Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions..

Caramel Swirl, Race 4

FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/5

Race 4 is a Maiden Special Weight for three-year-old fillies, and it's at a distance of 1 1/16 miles. After hitting on a pair of short-priced winners yesterday on Pegasus Cup Day, we’ll ride the favorite in this maiden race. Caramel Swirl (8/5) is a best bet of Guaranteed Tip Sheet and the top pick of numberFire. She had a pair of runner-up finishes in her two sprint starts to close 2020, and she makes her local debut after working in the mornings like a horse ready to break through the past month. The daughter of Union Rags is well positioned and meant for red-hot trainer Bill Mott and his go-to jockey, Junior Alvarado.

Unbridled d’Oro (3/1) is the main challenger for EPO trainer Todd Pletcher. She stretches out after finishing second as the favorite here a month ago.

Pharoah’s Belle, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2

Race 5 is a Maiden Special Weight for three-year-old fillies at 7 furlongs. Pharoah’s Belle (7/2) makes her much anticipated debut as a daughter of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. Leading jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. and his meet-best 26% win rate rides for Pletcher, and they are the top pick by numberFire.

Legendary Gift (5/1) also makes her debut as a daughter of Flatter. She has a pair of bullet works in place this month. Jockey Paco Lopez rides and finishes in the money in 50% of his races -- second best at the meet behind Ortiz. Copacetic (4/1) is a $375,000 daughter of Curlin who is making her debut for trainer Chad Brown.

Royal Meghan and Bird Map, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/5 and 10/1

This is a 6-furlong Allowance race for older fillies and mares that drew eight runners. The favorite will take tons of money from the rail. Royal Meghan (7/5) drew away and won by 6 lengths against weaker state breds last month. She posted a career-best 103 speed figure in that one and will try to wire these again. Horse Racing Radar notes her strong previous works and rates her a Best Bet based on speed figures.

Bramble Berry (3/1) was second to Royal Meghan in that race but well in front of others. Bird Map (10/1) won here at the same distance five weeks ago and is an inclusion at longer odds. Daily Horse Picks rates her speed tops along with Royal Meghan's.
