Gulfstream Park Horse Racing Picks for Friday 1/22/21

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 12:35 p.m. EST, we have 10 races at Gulfstream Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Good Old Boy, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/1

Race 7 is a Starter Allowance for older horses, and it's going 1 1/16 miles on the turf. The top pick for numberFire’s algorithm is High Noon Rider (7/2) with top local jockey Edgard Zayas riding for EPO trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. Daily Horse Picks (DHP) rates Good Old Boy (5/1) on top with EPO trainer Mike Maker followed by Mid Day Image (8/1) and longshot Danville (15/1).

High Noon Rider is an eight-year-old who has won 15 races, including last month here in the Claiming Crown Emerald Stakes. She rallied from way off the pace at huge odds to return $113 on a $2 win bet.

The DHP pace projector favors Mid Day Image, Good Old Boy and My Point Exactly (6/1), who has won six races at this distance. The DHP speed ratings favor Good Old Boy and Lookin at Roses (12/1). Good Old Boy has posted five straight speed figures in the 90s with a pair of wins and two other in-the-money finishes.

Thinkin Cowtown, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1

Race 8 is a 5-furlong sprint on the turf for older state-bred fillies and mares. The top pick of numberFire’s data is War Star (9/2) followed by Thinkin Cowtown (4/1) and Miss Miami (3/1).

War Star has hit the board in 10-of-17 starts but owns just two wins, with her last victory more than 18 months ago. Angelcents (7/2) is well bred and makes her local debut with leading jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. riding. It’s her first start since being eased last September in a stakes race following her maiden debut win

Thinkin Cowtown finished third here last month in the same race she won the year prior -- the Claiming Crown Distaff Dash. She has a positive strike rate at the track, good form and finished fourth as the favorite on a quick turnaround at Tampa a month ago.

Miss Miami has finished in the money in four straight races at Gulfstream tracks, including her 5-furlong sprint last out as favorite. Miss Miami was claimed last race by Maker’s barn.

Sassy Cat and Winnipeg Wonder, Race 10

FanDuel Racing Odds: 12/1 and 3/1

This is another 5-furlong sprint on the turf, and Race 10 is for older Maiden fillies. It's a full field of 12, and Guaranteed Tip Sheet has a best bet on Winnipeg Wonder (3/1) with the aforementioned Zayas taking over. She finished second as the favorite here just two weeks ago after taking the lead in the stretch, and she was claimed to a new barn with trainer Murat Sancal.

Miahsolomiah (7/2) finished second off a layoff here last month and set the pace into the mid-stretch. Miahsolomiah looks ready to challenge for a win again. Sassy Cat (12/1) could steal this at double-digit odds, and numberFire has her hitting the board behind winner Winnipeg Wonder. Livin at the Beach (5/1) sounds good, but her results are not -- 0-for-6 with just one third-place finish.
