Gulfstream Park Horse Racing Picks for Wednesday 12/2/20

There are 10 races on opening day of the 2020-21 Championship Meet at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday. Which horses should you bet on at FanDuel Racing?

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 12:35 p.m. EST, we have 10 races at Gulfstream Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

It's opening day of Gulfstream Park's four-month 2020-21 Championship Meet. You can get handicapping and horse racing news, plus bet all the races at TVG.

Royal Asset and Discretionary Marq, Race 3

FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/1 and 3/1

Race 3 is a Claiming 5 furlong sprint on the turf. The top pick, according to numberFire's data, is Discretionary Marq (3/1), with Earth (4/1) and Take Charge Dude (5/1) projected to hit the board.

Discretionary Marq is 0-for-4 this year but comes off a stronger Allowance race in October at Monmouth Park, finishing a strong closing fourth with a 97 speed figure. His 4-furlong workout two weeks ago locally was a bullet-best of 22 for the day.

Take Charge Dude is a regular Gulfstream runner with four runner-up finishes in eight starts this year. He has a new trainer with Victor Barboza, Jr., and Take Charge Dude will be setting the pace. The horse for the course is the favorite Gran Saman (5/2), who has seven wins sprinting on the local turf. Take a look at Royal Asset (8/1) with Joe Bravo riding. He won at Gulfstream West three weeks ago with a 95 speed figure and raced previously in stronger New York-bred turf races.

Piper, Race 6

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2

Race 6 is a Maiden Claiming race for 2-year-old fillies sprinting 5 ½ furlongs, and numberFire’s algorithm projects Piper (7/2) to win over Pitufina (6/1).

Guaranteed Tip Sheet has a best bet on Piper, and Horse Racing Radar notes that she is cutting back in distance after setting the pace and finishing second against stronger state-bred maidens three weeks ago. Leading jockey Edgard Zayas rides again.

Tracy Ann’s Legacy, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1

Race 9 is an Allowance sprint at 5 furlongs on the turf for fillies and mares, and numberFire projects the favorite Catch a Thrill (8/5) to edge out Tracy Ann’s Legacy (3/1). Guaranteed Tip Sheet has them in reverse order with a best bet on Tracy Ann’s Legacy, who is also running for the optional $25,000 claiming price. FanDuel Racing odds suggest a 27% win probability for Catch a Thrill and better value on Tracy Ann's Legacy.

Horse Racing Radar notes that Tracy Ann’s Legacy is six-for-six in-the-money on the local turf with two wins. Those results were last year, and she comes in from Monmouth Park off a pair of wins and runner-up finish before stepping up into stakes competition and finishing fourth.

Catch a Thrill is running off a two-and-a-half-month layoff, having finished runner-up in three straight races. Two of those were over this turf course with 90+ speed figures, including her last race as the favorite when pressing the pace. The four-year-old daughter of City Zip was also stakes-placed over this course. Include in Exacta and/or Trifecta wagering.
