Del Mar Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 10/31/20

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 3:30 p.m. EST, we have nine races at Del Mar. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes and racing information.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Trevor T, Race 3

FanDuel Racing Odds: 2/1

It's opening day of the 15-day fall meet at Del Mar, and field sizes are expected to average close to nine runners. Race 3 is a Maiden Special Weight for state breds running one mile on the turf.

The favorite and top pick according to numberFire’s data is Trevor T (2/1). He improved in his second start and ran a strong race earlier this month when finishing second with an 88 speed figure.

A closer look by Horse Racing Radar shows he was slow early and dropped off the pace. When he rallied, he still had to get through traffic trouble in the stretch and just missed by a neck. A jockey change to top rider Umberto Rispoli should get him to the winner's circle in front of One Fast Bro (3/1), who makes his second start off a layoff and posted an 82 speed figure earlier this month when finishing fourth. Cool Your Jets (5/1) has not raced in a year and lost his first 12 starts.

Avenue de France and Over Attracted, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2 and 3/1

Race 5 is a good group of 3-year-old fillies going one mile on the turf. This Allowance race has half the field of eight runners that are eligible to be claimed for an $80,000 purchase.

The top pick according to numberFire’s data is Avenue de France (7/2), He’s 0-for-3 this year since winning twice in France in 2019. But Avenue de France has faced older runners and now comes back against a group after finishing a close third at Del Mar in August with a strong rally and 108 speed figure. Jockey Drayden Van Dyke keeps the mount.

Daily Horse Picks projects the horse on the outside, Loud Loud Music (6/1), to win, and Beguiled (4/1) to hit the board for the first time in his last six starts for EPO trainer Phil D’Amato and leading jockey Flavien Prat. Over Attracted (3/1) is another contender with Umberto Rispoli riding. He has posted three straight triple-digit speed figures and looks ready to improve on his pair of recent fourth-place finishes.

Never Be Enough and Cordiality, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/1 and 7/2

Race 7 is the minor $75,000 Kathryn Crosby Stakes for fillies and mares going one mile on the turf. Never Be Enough (5/1) is in top form off back-to-back wins at Golden Gate, and she arrived this week ready to win with a close fourth-place finish at Del Mar this summer at a longer distance -- when she had the lead in the stretch and posted a 107 speed figure.

Bob Baffert-trained Qahira (5/1) has been scratched, and Cordiality (7/2) moves to the top pick of numberFire projections. She’s a multiple stakes winner with class in this field and should be running up front along the lead. Cordiality is a 12-time winner and has won two of her last three starts, including at Del Mar at this distance in July with a 111 speed figure. She's Our Charm (5/1) beat Allowance runners two weeks ago with a 113 speed figure and now makes her stakes debut.
