Santa Anita Park Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 10/25/20

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 3:30 p.m. EST, we have 11 races at Santa Anita Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Murad Khan, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2

Race 5 is a the $70K Lure Stakes at one mile on the Turf. There are six runners, and it's no surprise to see three EPO trainers in Richard Baltas, Phil D’Amato and Peter Miller. Baltas has favorite One Bad Boy (2/1) with leading jockey Flavien Prat riding. Daily Horse Picks projects Majestic Eagle (4/1) to win and Gregorian Chant (7/2) and Murad Khan (5/2) to finish in-the-money. The top pick according to numberFire’s algorithm is Murad Khan.

Majestic Eagle is 0-for-5 this year but has raced in four graded stakes and posted triple-digit speed figures in each race, including a best 113 on this turf course three weeks ago at huge odds. Daily Horse Picks rates him top class and speed in the race, and he’ll likely be coming from off the pace with a rider change to Mario Gutierrez.

Guaranteed Tip Sheet has Majestic Eagle finishing second behind Murad Khan, who also posted a 113 speed figure his last race two months ago when pressing the pace and finishing a close second to the heavy favorite. He has the speed to challenge Queen's Plate winner One Bad Boy up front. One Bad Boy has raced just once this year and finished fourth in August, when he was checked early and lost position. Still, he seems vulnerable and not worth the risk/reward.

Atina, Race 6

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2

There is a mandatory payout of the Rainbow Pick 6 starting in Race 6, and it will approach $1 million on Sunday. This one-mile Claiming race for fillies and mares drew nine runners. Atina (7/2) is the top pick of Guaranteed Tip Sheet, and she won the end of July and finished third last race at this distance and level, posting an 89 speed figure in each race.

The top pick according to numberFire’s data is Destiny’s Journey (3/1) ahead of Mongolian Window (8/1). Destiny's Journey is the slight favorite and has won two straight races this summer but has not raced in more than two months.

Rain Diva, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2

Race 8 is a six-furlong sprint for state bred fillies and mares, and we'll add a Single to the Pick 6 with Rain Diva (5/2) on the rail. She should break to the front and not look back as she did when winning by more than seven lengths three weeks ago. None of Your Biz (5/1) is the pace rival to the top choice while stablemate Shylock Eddie (3/1) switches back to dirt after consistently failing on the turf. numberFire has Rain Diva finishing second behind longshot Hot On the Trail (12/1).

Raymundos Secret and Tonahutu, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 9/5 and 4/1

Race 9 is the $200K Grade II Goldikova Stakes for fillies and mares racing one mile on the Turf. Twelve years ago, Goldikova won the first of her three Breeders’ Cup Miles, and this race is in her honor.

The favorites -- Maxim Rate (8/5) and Raymundos Secret (9/5) -- have two leading jockeys Umberto Rispoli and Flavien Prat. They are the top two contenders for Daily Horse Picks behind numberFire's winning pick, Tonahutu (4/1). Raymundos Secret has won 5-of-7 and will set the pace up front. Her one-mile turf times have been considerably faster than Maxim Rate, according to Horse Racing Radar. Maxim Rate will have to rally from off the pace to catch Raymundos Secret and Tonahutu, who finished fourth last race at a longer distance but weakened and was three lengths behind runner-up Maxim Rate. She’s come back with two very sharp morning workouts in preparation for this big race.
