Santa Anita Park Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 10/24/20

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 4:00 p.m. EST, we have 10 races at Santa Anita Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

King of Speed, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2

Race 5 is an Allowance Optional Claiming race with a short field of five going 1 1/16 miles. The aptly-named King of Speed (7/2) breaks from the rail with jockey Mike Smith aboard, and he’s the top pick of numberFire. King of Speed is 0-for-5 this year but posted a pair of triple-digit speed figures in two graded stakes races and fits better here.

Trainer Vladimir Cerin has both favorite Order and Law (9/5) and top contender Potantico (2/1). Daily Horse Picks projects Order and Law to win running up front with Potantico, who is shortening up after missing badly against graded stakes runners last race. Order and Law won this Allowance condition two starts back on turf and switches back to dirt.

Tripoli and Royal Act, Race 6

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2 and 6/1

Race 6 is an Allowance Optional Claiming Race at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. The top pick according to numberFire’s data is Tripoli (5/2) followed by Royal Act (6/1). Daily Horse Picks also projects Tripoli to win and forecasts an off-the-pace run to set up nicely for this son of Kitten’s Joy. Tripoli finished third last race with a career-best 99 speed figure.

Royal Act is a son of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. He finished second in a Grade 3 race earlier this year but missed the money badly in the Louisiana Derby and last race in September off a layoff. Improvement is expected with sharp morning workouts in place.

Irish Heatwave (4/1) has been in tougher races recently while finishing out of the money but has posted 102 speed figures this summer and fits better here.

Magic at Midnight, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 9/5

Race 8 is the $100K Grade III Senator Ken Maddy Stakes for fillies and mares sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. The projected winner by numberFire is Biddy Duke (6/1) with the Jo Jo Air (5/2) and favorite Magic at Midnight (9/5) also hitting the board.

Guaranteed Tip Sheet and its Horse Racing Radar section notes Magic at Midnight is undefeated in four races -- including when setting a blazing pace and winning on dirt. She won other races on turf and wired sprinters two race back with a 103 speed figure. Jockey Abel Cedillo is best from the gate and should get her out front quickly.

Jo Jo Air is the top pick of Daily Horse Picks with leading jockey Flavien Prat riding. Daily Horse Picks notes she has more class and lots of stakes experience. She won at Del Mar in July with a 111 speed figure and will likely try to stalk and pounce to beat the favorite. Biddy Duke suffered a poor trip last race but still finished third with a 103 speed figure and has finished in-the-money in seven straight races this year with three wins.
