HORSE RACING

Parx Horse Racing Picks for Tuesday 9/8/20

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 12:55 p.m. EST, we have 10 races at Parx. Using numberFire’s projections and Daily Horse Picks as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Ellarella, Race 3

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2

Race 3 is a Maiden Special Weight for fillies and mares racing one mile.

Miss Moon Pie (5/1) is ridden by leading jockey Frankie Pennington. She was unruly prior to getting in the gate for her debut a month ago and then tired badly in a sprint. Ellarella (5/2) is a best bet according to Guaranteed Tip Sheet. She rallied after a slow start in her sprint debut the end of July and has come back with a bullet on her work tab. She's changing jockeys to another leading rider, Angel Rodriguez.

Solid Gold Dancer (9/2) is the top pick according to numberFire’s data. She went wire-to-wire to cross the finish line first in her second start but was disqualified for drifting out badly on the far turn and impeding the progress of another horse. She adds Lasix and can payoff in Exacta wagering. Cousin Basil (7/2) improved in her third start and had a wide trip but finished second at this distance just two weeks ago.

Smarty Cat and Alleria, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/1 and 7/2

Race 7 is a Claiming race for fillies and mares racing 7 1/2 furlongs on the Turf. The algorithm for numberFire projects Alleria (7/2) to win. She did not like the wet and sloppy surface two weeks ago but is right back having run well on turf when finishing second the previous race. She’ll likely set the pace while favorite Our Flirtation (5/2) tries to catch her after winning her first race in nine starts as heavy favorite the end of July.

Pass is On (10/1) is a well-traveled longshot and closer from off the pace who has run at five different tracks this year and raced just five days ago. Smarty Cat (5/1) races at Parx for the first time, and her out-of-the-money results don’t look good in her last three starts. But she’s faced better and changed her style last race running on the lead before fading. The track's top jockey, Mychel Sanchez, is given the assignment to get her home a winner.

Septimius Severus, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1

Race 9 is a 5 furlong sprint on the Turf. Daily Horse Picks (DHP) projects the favorite Clever Sarah (5/2) to win and so does numberFire. She’s a 4-year-old filly racing against the boys after fading in the stretch on dirt in her 2020 debut in July.

A more appealing option is to take better prices on a few horses -- including Septimius Severus (6/1) and Breezy Gust (8/1), who has top jockey Mychel Sanchez riding. Septimius Severus won two races on the dirt wire-to-wire as odds-on favorite. DHP rates his speed the fastest in the race, and he’s hinted at running well on turf before.

American Quality (9/2) returns to Parx after stealing a wire-to-wire win at 50/1 odds two-and-a-half weeks ago at Monmouth Park.
