HORSE RACING

Saratoga Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 9/6/20

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 12:45 p.m. EST, we have 12 races at Saratoga. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Tiz He the One and Lusitano, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1 and 8/1

Race 8 is a Claiming race at 7 furlongs, and 10 runners are entered. The favorite Is Tiz He the One (3/1) for EPO trainer Mike Maker, and numberFire’s algorithm projects him to win followed by Lusitano (8/1), who is the top pick at Guaranteed Tip Sheet.

Tiz He the One is finding good health, which is a key factor to running well. This is his third start since July, and he posted a 100 speed figure when finishing third back in July. He fits well class wise and showed good speed in his most recent training on his work tab.

Lusitano is a 5-year-old who won his last race with a 99 speed figure. He was claimed in that race by new trainer James Ferraro, who has jockey Luis Saez riding again.

American Power (9/2) and Creative Style (8/1) are contenders for EPO trainer Rob Altras, with the latter offering some value if including in Exata or Trifecta wagering.

Beautiful Memories, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 9/5

Race 9 is the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes for 2-year-olds racing 7 furlongs. We have just six juvenile runners, and both Daily Horse Picks and numberFire project favorite Beautiful Memories (9/5) to win with leading jockey Jose Ortiz riding. She broke her maiden in May and then stumbled at the start and did not finish when pulled up by Ortiz in her next Grade 3 race.

Jose Ortiz has 53 wins at the Saratoga summer meet and trails his brother Irad Ortiz, Jr., who has 55 wins and rides Guana Cay (3/1), who finished a distant second a month ago. Two-year-old fillies can be fickle as they learn their way but many improve sharply later in the year.

Lady Lilly (7/2) won her debut as the heavy favorite for trainer Steven Asmussen, and Irish Constitution (8/1) also won her debut running on the front end.

Come Dancing, Race 10

FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/5 and

Race 10 is the Grade 2 Honorable Miss Handicap for fillies and mares sprinting 6 furlongs. Daily Horse Picks projects Lady Island (7/2) to get to the winners’ circle, and the two favorites — Blamed (2/1) and Come Dancing (8/5) — to hit the board. Lady Island is super quick, and the speed should be respected even when facing better runners in this race. Include her in exacta and trifecta wagers.

Guaranteed Tip Sheet notes that Lady Island has won 8-of-13 at this distance and ships in from Gulfstream for this big race. Come Dancing ran the top last race speed figure (100) when finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes last month. A jockey change to leading rider Irad Ortiz, Jr. should help. The projected winner using our numberFire algorithm is Come Dancing, who is looking to win for the ninth time in her 18th start.
