Del Mar Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 9/5/20

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 4:00 p.m. EST, we have 11 races at Del Mar Racetrack. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Kalypso, Race 1

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2

Race 1 is a Maiden sprint at 5 1/2 furlongs for 2-year-old fillies. Just three days of racing remain at the summer meet “Where the Turf Meets the Surf.” Bob Baffert-trained Kalypso (5/2) will be tough to beat off a third-place debut racing behind a hot pace.

The top pick according to numberFire's data is Beautiful Gift (7/2), who is also trained by Baffert. She is very well bred and shoud show good speed, which she's featured on her work tab in preparation for her debut.

Del Mar’s leading jockeys Umberto Rispoli and Flavien Prat ride Agreetodisagree (6/1) and Queengol (6/1), respectively, who both make their career debut.

Jamming Eddy and Brix, Race 6

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1 and 6/1

Race 6 is an Allowance Optional Claiming race for state-bred runners, and it is sprinting 5 furlongs on the Turf. Daily Horse Picks’ algorithm projects Brix (6/1) to win followed by longshot Older Brother (20/1) and Jamming Eddy (3/1).

Brix is ridden by Rispoli and Jamming Eddy by rival Prat. Both have EPO trainers with Jamming Eddy trainer Peter Miller leading the meet with 25 wins.

The race has a different look for numberFire projections, as their top two picks are Hit the Seam (5/2) and Offshore Affair (9/2).

Raymundos Secret, Race 10

FanDuel Racing Odds: 2/1 and 6/1

Race 10 is the Grade 2 John C. Maybe Stakes for fillies and mares running a route of 1 1/8 miles on the Turf. Daily Horse Picks projects Raymundos Secret (2/1) to win with Prat riding for EPO trainer Phil D’Amato. However, numberFire likes her to hit the board, but its algorithm picks Lady Prancealot (5/2) to win with Rispoli riding for trainer Peter Miller. Also, Pulpit Rider (5/1) can finish in-the-money, according to numberFire’s projections.

Raymundos Secret has won four of her six starts, including her 2020 debut just three weeks ago in which she showed a strong turn of foot in the stretch racing from off the pace. Raymundos Secret has posted triple-digit speed figures in four starts.

Lady Pracelot has top class but is 0-for-3 in 2020 and failed to hit the board in any of those graded stakes races.

Top Race Reports adds some informative insight about the jockeys, noting that Rispoli has 24 of his 42 wins coming in turf routes heading into the final weekend of the meet.
