HORSE RACING

Saratoga Horse Racing Picks for Wednesday 8/19/20

Saratoga has eight races Wednesday, including a minor Stakes. Which horses should you bet on at FanDuel Racing?

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 1:21 p.m. EST, we have eight Thoroughbred races at Saratoga. Using our numberFire projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Mo Normal, Race 3

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1

Race 3 is a Maiden Special Weight for two-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles. The favorite is the entry of Reina Del Sol (7/5) and Ingrassia (7/5) by EPO trainer Chad Brown -- we'll try to beat.

Stunning Princess (2/1) will get bet after a runner-up finish on debut a month ago where she was unable to hold the lead at this distance. She was lengths clear of the favorite Mo Normal (4/1), who settled at the back and passed three others to finish fourth. Top Race Reports notes trainer Christophe Clement had Mo Normal and the winner that day, and now this one will show improvement in a better position for her second race at a better price.

Puma Punku (5/1) debuts for trainer Graham Motion and jockey John Velazquez. Tougher gauge on many juveniles, but waiting for proper placement and determining if well meant part of the process. Could show well to include.

Rivendell and In Front, Race 6

FanDuel Racing Odds: 9/2 and 4/1

Race 6 is an Allowance race for fillies and mares at 1-mile on the Inner Turf. A number of competitors at a price in here, and Bossy Bride (9/5) will only run if the race is taken off the turf. Rivendell (9/2) won on debut last month at Belmont, going wide on the turn and closing strong to win by a few lengths.

In Front (4/1) broke her maiden in Saratoga debut and sixth career start. She posted a better 92 speed figure than the top pick and leading jockey Joel Rosario is among the best stretch-riders while determining the pace of the race for his runner.

Kitten by the Sea (4/1) will get bet with the Jose Ortiz/Todd Pletcher jockey/trainer combo. She’s 2-for-4 with a show finish last race and 94 speed figure, just missing by a neck.

Toby’s Heart, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 1/1

Race 8 is the minor $85K Bolton Landing Stakes for two-year-old fillies sprinting 5 ½ furlongs on the turf. Two added entries if the race goes to the main track, but that's not likely for Stylish Rags (6/1) or Sunny Isle Beach (12/1).

The favorite with no value but a winning ride is Toby’s Heart (1/1), a Single for your late horizontal wagers. She broke her Maiden impressively by nearly seven lengths at Churchill Downs in June and now faces winners with leading-rider Jose Ortiz aboard.

Speed upfront will include Joy’s Rocket (5/2), who is 2-for-2 and also won on debut at Churchill Downs in June and then won a minor stakes at Woodbine for trainer Steve Asmussen.

If you're looking for a price underneath, consider Mischievous Dream (8/1), a New York-bred who won on debut here last month with slower speed than the other two.
