Canterbury Park Horse Racing Picks for Monday 8/17/20

Canterbury has nine races on Monday. Which horses should you bet on at FanDuel Racing?

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 5:35 p.m. EST, we have nine races at Canterbury Park. Using numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Hawkwood and Side Street Dave, Race 4

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/1 and 9/2

Race 4 is a Claiming race with a $20K tag at 7 ½ furlongs on the turf. Guaranteed Tip Sheet has Blazin Asian (7/2) on top of Runtech (6/1). Blazin Asian has been off since February and hit the board in a minor stakes with improved speed ratings in the 80’s in his sophomore season.

Runtech is in career-best form, winning his last two since the end of June in his first two starts at Canterbury, including a forward-running win by six-lengths with an 85 speed figure against cheaper priced claimers last month.

Hawkwood (5/1) stretches out after facing much tougher last out in his Canterbury debut. He strings races together, having hit a 92 speed figure in a runner-up finish at Lone Star.

Campaign Spy (5/2) drops in class and is back in less than two weeks. Also won a similar claimer here in July from off the pace. Fits well as favorite. Side Street Dave (9/2) is racing third off a layoff with room to improve with trainer's go-to jockey Dean Butler aboard. Follow-up works in place off a runner-up finish and co-favorite three-races back against better to finish second.

Hell of the North, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2

Race 5 is for two-year-old state-bred fillies sprinting 5 furlongs. The favorite is Runaway A. Train (5/2) with first time Lasix in place. He debuts for his sire Bodemeister, who finished runner-up in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness in 2012.

Hell of the North (7/2) also has first time Lasix. His sire was a Grade 1 winner and dam a four-time stakes winner. Solid works in place for debut. That Would Be Nice (9/2) missed the money on debut here last month and gave way.

Love Ya Most, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 12/1

Race 8 is a Maiden Special Weight for fillies and mares sprinting 5 furlongs on the turf. The favorites are Blue Lizzy (2/1) and Lets Pardi Marti (3/1) on the far outside No. 9 post, with leading jockey Francisco Arrieta aboard. Blue Lizzy has hit the board in both starts here and finished second, a head in front of Lets Pardi Marti last month. Mizzanna (12/1) finished fourth and made up a little ground late.

Love Ya Most (12/1) makes her 2020 debut and second career start. A pair of bullets on the work tab this month and value for certain.
