Del Mar Horse Racing Picks for Friday 8/7/20

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 5:00 p.m. EST, we have 9 races at Del Mar Racetrack. Using our numberFire projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Sturdy One, Race 4

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1

Race 4 is a smaller Claiming race with eight fillies and mares sprinting 6 furlongs. The top pick at numberFire is Busy Paynter (6/1) followed by Uno Trouble Maker (6/1). Busy Paynter has won four of her last nine and ran well here last fall. She may be compromised by the track profile and abundance of speed but is worth inclusion to hit the board.

So we’ll look towards Sturdy One (3/1), an eight-year-old mare who was claimed at Churchill Downs in May by trainer Neil French, who doesn’t run many. FanDuel Racing implied odds suggest a 25% chance to win. This one is eligible for the 20% ship-and-win bonus since she has not run in California this year. She’ll likely press up close, and she won three straight races at Santa Anita last spring, hitting a best 96 speed figure.

Lavender and Y Not Sizzle Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2 and 12/1

Race 7 is a Starter Allowance for fillies and mares going one mile on the turf. It's a deep and open field of 10 runners with no decisive favorite. A fairly quick pace is projected, and Lavender (7/2) looks solid returning less than two weeks after missing the board but posting a 105 speed figure against a stronger group. Her best puts her in the winner's circle as picked by numberFire and Guaranteed Tip Sheet.

Freedom Lass (4/1) was purchased privately after romping to a maiden win out front in May. She makes her California debut for a new trainer and owner.

Goodtingscomeinpink (6/1) can challenge running on late with some solid late speed figures. She’ll have a more fair surface than her recent races to run down the leaders.

Queensbeccaandjane (10/1) has done pretty well sprinting and stretches to two turns for the first time. She’ll be running on the lead, but for how long?

Y Not Sizzle (12/1) was runner-up here twice last summer and finally broke her maiden four months ago in her 12th start. A price attached with leading rider Umberto Rispoli taking charge if the pace breaks down.

My Girl Red, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1

Race 8 is the $150K Sorrento Stakes (G2) for two-year-old fillies, and it's sprinting 6 furlongs. Daily Horse Picks (DHP) likes favorites September Secret (2/1) and My Girl Red (3/1) while numberFire has those two hitting the board below Scaterra (4/1).

My Girl Red won her debut with ease against weaker and posted the top first-race speed figure, according to Guaranteed Tip Sheet, which takes her on top. Daily Horse Picks rates her with the top class and speed in this race. She has the potential to move forward while September Secret won her second start by 7 lengths but has shown less speed than My Girl.

Scaterra (4/1) drew off for an impressive debut win at Arlington Park while Exchange Vows (12/1) also won her debut and was heavily bet.

Get On the Bus (5/1) makes her debut with a consistent, solid work tab in place for trainer Doug O'Neill. She's an expensive daughter of Uncle Mo and looks to be ready to go. Include her in Exacta and Trifecta wagering.
