Charles Town Horse Racing Picks for Thursday 7/23/20

Charles Town has eight races slated for tonight. Which horses should you bet on at FanDuel Racing?

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 7:00 p.m. EST this evening, we have eight races at Charles Town. Using our projections as a guide, here's a look at some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

(I will be referencing Equibase's Speed Figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions)

Buff's Eye View, Race 2 (7:30 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 2/1

After two scratches, this Allowance event will have just five runners. Current betting favorite Buff's Eye View comes in with the figures to beat. Prior to a lengthy six-month hiatus, the gelding had speed figures of 90-plus in three straight outings. His workouts at Charles Town since the end of May have been absolutely phenomenal.

Out of Cents (3/1) is our model's top pick with Triple Bad scratched. The gelding has had figures of 80 better in four straight, finishing 3-1-2-2 in those efforts. He'll be jockeyed by Arnaldo Bocachica, who is in a tier of his own at this track. Fresh of a win six weeks ago, Bobby Axelrod (5/2) could place well here. He's finished 3-2-1 in his last three, posting figures of 86, 89, and 76, respectively. With wins in all three of his races in 2020, Sweetin Bread (8/1) and jockey Christian Hiraldo are the "longshots" to target if you're so inclined.

Boaster, Race 4 (8:25 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 7/2

The second Allowance race features seven horses running seven furlongs. Projected to place third by our models, Boaster piqued my interest. The colt has finished top-three in six straight and 16 of 18 overall. He's won each of the last two races at this distance, both with Bocachica in saddle. On the back of winning 30% of his outings, the jockey is the leader in purse at Charles Town by more than half a million dollars.

Betting favorite Hero's Man (3/1) has won three of his last five and 6 of 12 overall. He's achieved speed figures of 90 or better in four of his last five. The form is top-notch. Start Line (5/1) is an interesting one to consider here. The gelding hasn't raced since 2018, with just one outing since 2017. However, he had figures of 90-plus in each of his last six races of 2017 -- including triple-digits in four of them. Rider Hiraldo is one of the more successful here. Opera Nite (4/1) has the figures to be in the mix.

Mae Sai Princess, Race 7 (9:49 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 4/1

This Claiming event goes 6 1/2 furlongs with seven runners. Mae Sai Princess is coming off a career-worst 10th-place finish in her lone race since returning from hiatus, but I still like the filly's chances in her Charles Town debut. She has placed top-three in 9 of 15 career outings, including two of three in 2020. Her effort at Laurel Park 12 days ago was rock-solid.

Betting favorite Mandy (5/2) is in a great position in this race. The filly won her only outing since March, reaching a figure of 75. She'll be jockeyed by Bocachica. Gold and Strike (5/1) posted figures of 77 or better in three of her last four races, though she hasn't competed since March. Ultimate Justice (15/1) is a longshot worth a bet in exotics.
