HORSE RACING

Charles Town Horse Racing Picks for Friday 7/10/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 7:00 p.m. EST this evening, we have nine races at Charles Town. Using our projections as a guide, here's a look at some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

(I will be referencing Equibase's Speed Figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions)

Ballyhoo Prince, Race 1 (7:00 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 3/1

Four of the horses in this race competed in another Maiden Special Weight on June 13 -- the highest finisher was Ballyhoo Prince, who placed second. Interestingly enough, the horse that won was jockeyed by Arnaldo Bocachica, who will be riding Ballyhood Prince in this one. The gelding posted a 59 speed figure in that effort, the best figure any horse in this race has ever posted. His odds could shrink before post time.

Richie's B L (6/1) also ran in that June 13 race, placing fourth on the back of a 51 figure. His jockey booking of Wesley Ho is a plus. Stephanopolous (8/1) finished just a quarter of a length behind Richie's B L, and his outing two weeks ago showed solid form. Eclipticals Dewey (5/1) was right on the tail of Ballyhoo prince, but his jockey booking is far from enticing. Village Prince (15/1) is a longshot worth a look.

Silk Stocking, Race 6 (9:32 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 2/1

Though numberFire's models have her placing second, current betting favorite Silk Stocking is too enticing to pass up here. The filly has won four of her last five outings while sporting an average figure of 78.8 over her last four. That's impressive, even for this field. Jockey Gerald Almodovar has been on a hot streak of late, winning 5 of his last 16 and 12 of his last 45 -- that's after placing first in just 18 of his first 136 races of 2020.

Ridden by top jockey Bocachica, Tel Aviv (5/1) is our model's top pick. She's won three of four coming in, including a similar Starter Allowance three weeks ago. The filly's odds will most likely shrink. Despite a poor showing a month ago, Floating By (9/2) could be well in the mix. The mare has had three impressive outings since the fifth-place finish on June 11. Ryoan (3/1) can't seem to buy a win -- zero victories in her last seven races -- but the mare's figures are better than the rest of the field. Don't count her out. Alpine Moon (6/1) should be thereabouts.

Nice n' Broad, Race 7 (10:02 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 4/1

Nice n' Broad is neither the favorite nor our model's top pick, but I like her odds of taking this one to the barn. In her two races back from the hiatus, the filly has achieved figures of 82 and 82, placing first and second in those respective races. With Wesly Ho in the saddle, Nine n' Broad should place highly.

Betting favorite Fender Baby (7/2) is numberFire's winning pick. The mare has three first- and three-second place finishes in her last six efforts. With Bocachica on her back, the filly should either win or place in this Allowance event. Always Talking (9/2) had a nice showing two weeks ago and deserves consideration. Despite the longer odds, don't count Indian Fiber (10/1) out in her first race of 2020.
