Lone Star Park Horse Racing Picks for Monday 6/29/20
With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.
Starting at 2:35 p.m. EST today, we have nine races at Lone Star Park. Using our projections as a guide, here's a look at some of the best bets.
As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.
(I will be referencing Equibase's Speed Figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions)
Hold Me Gabby, Race 4 (4:11 PM)
FD Racing Odds: 7/2
Making his debut, I like Hold Me Gabby to win this Maiden Special Weight. The horse will be jockeyed by David Cabrera, who is second in purse at this track in 2020. His three outings since late May show a horse capable of making an immediate splash.
In his third career race, current betting favorite and numberFire's top pick Full Trigger (2/1) has an excellent chance of breaking his maiden status. Though his second effort was underwhelming, the colt's first career race saw him post a speed figure of 78 -- elite for this field. His recent workouts indicate that he may be back on track. Theorist (4/1) is projected by numberFire to finish as the runner-up in his second career outing. Texas Crossbow (3/1) has the ability, but his June form isn't encouraging. Chody N Daniel (30/1) is a longshot worth considering.
Mister Kelly, Race 5 (4:43 PM)
FD Racing Odds: 6/1
The first of three Allowance events at Lone Star today is bound to be a doozy. There are quite a few horses in this race capable of pulling off impressive wins. My pick is Mister Kelly, ridden by leading jockey Stewart Elliott. The colt's three career outings have seen him improve his speed figure each time, including an impressive 85 in a victory at this track three weeks ago. It's tough to question his form.
November Mike (9/2) posted a figure of 80 in a runner-up finish at an Allowance event here 20 days ago. The gelding will have Ramon Vazquez in the saddle. Vazquez has won a track-high 25% of his races here this year. Our model's pick is Tigerbeach (5/2). The five-year-old gelding had posted 22 consecutive figures of 80-plus prior to that same allowance event 20 days ago. In a sixth-place finish there, he achieved a figure of 74, tied for his lowest since 2017. He has the ability, but it's a matter of improving his form. Current betting favorite Foxrun (2/1) has placed first in each of his last two efforts and three of his last four overall. He'll be in the mix. Dynamo Kid (8/1) has a wide range of outcomes, not the least of which is winning by several lengths.
True Castle, Race 7 (5:45 PM)
FD Racing Odds: 3/1
True Castle comes into this Allowance race having won three of her last four. The filly has reached figures of 86-plus in each of her last four after not doing so in any of her nine previous career outings. She'll be jockeyed by the aforementioned Ramon Vazquez, who guided her to win at Lone Star just over a month ago.
Elusive Rose (7/2) has plenty going for her and is our model's top pick. In her first race at Lone Star, the five-year-old will be ridden by Stewart Elliott. Her last effort -- a victory at Sunland Park in March -- saw her reach a figure of 92. Current betting favorite Final Form (8/5) has won five of her last seven races. The mare's win at this track on June 3 saw her achieve an impressive figure of 101. Her workout a week ago wasn't fantastic. Okie Queen (15/1) is a current longshot with the form to be thereabouts.
Elle's Town, Race 9 (6:45 PM)
FD Racing Odds: 6/5
It's hard to pick anyone other than current betting favorite Elle's Town for this Allowance Optional Claiming event. The filly is fresh off a win here three weeks ago and has posted figures above 90 in six of her last seven efforts. Here form is just impeccable. As another plus, she'll draw jockey David Cabrera. What's not to like?
Imaginary Music (8/1) is our model's pick and certainly one to consider. While she has yet to race in 2020, the filly had won four of her last seven races in 2019 -- that includes a victory here and at Remington Park. Carry the One (20/1) currently has odds unbecoming of jockey Ramon Vazquez. The filly might not be the cream of the crop in this race, though she has won two of her last four. With Stewart Elliott, Holiday Time (7/2) should no doubt be thereabouts. Black Agnes (15/1) could surprise.
