Thistledown Horse Racing Picks for Tuesday 6/23/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 12:50 p.m. EST, we have nine races at Thistledown. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

Pirate's Treasure, Race 1

FD Racing Odds: 5/1

Our model picks Pirate's Treasure (5/1) to take the day's opening race. The gelding struggled in his first outing of 2020, but in his last race of 2019, he posted a 70 speed figure, according to Equibase, and he has an advantage at jockey with Luan Machado. Over 43 starts at Thistledown this season, Machado has a stunning 33% win rate and 56% top-three rate. Pirate's Treasure should be a big factor in Race 1.

Make The Rules and Daringly Bold, Race 4

FD Racing Odds: 5/2 and 7/2

These two stand out in Race 4.

Make The Rules (5/2) is our pick to win, and it's easy to see why. Over his last five events, he's got four firsts and one second, and he's gone at least a mile -- the length of this race -- in four of those five outings. He's posted speed figures of at least 83 in each of his last four races, including a career-best 92 just two events ago.

You can get more bang for your buck here by pairing Make The Rules with Daringly Bold (7/2) in an exacta. Daringly Bold has been in the top three in 16 of his 28 career races, including all three of his 2020 outings. He's won twice across his past five.

Designate, Race 8

FD Racing Odds: 7/2

Designate (7/2) checks some boxes in the day's finale. She been in the top three in four of seven career races, and while her fifth-place effort in her lone 2020 race isn't inspiring, she posted a 48 speed figure in that one, which is near her career-best clip of 50. Jockey Ricardo Mejias got in the top three in 50% of his 229 Thistledown races in 2019. In what looks like a pretty mild field, Designate is our pick to win, and she should figure prominently.
