Lone Star Park Horse Racing Picks for Monday 6/22/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 2:35 p.m. EST today, we have nine races at Lone Star Park. Using our projections as a guide, here's a look at some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

(I will be referencing Equibase's Speed Figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions)

Reach the Moon, Race 1 (2:35 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 7/2

After reaching speed figures of 79, 88, and 79 in his first three career races, Reach the Moon ran for a poor showing of 39 in a ninth-place finish in Late April at Oaklawn Park. Making his Lone Star debut, the colt has had a couple of solid efforts here since late May. Could break his maiden status in this race. He's projected for a runner-up finish by numberFire's models.

Katama Bay (8/1) is coming off a career-best figure of 75 in late February and has had a couple of decent outings at Louisiana Downs over the last month or so. He'll be jockeyed by Stewart Elliott, who leads all jockeys at this track in purse and win percentage. Globus (5/1) is also making his track debut after a fantastic effort here on the first of June. The gelding should be in the mix. Our model's pick, Ballyhack (9/2), and the betting favorite, Secular Stagnation (3/1) should be thereabouts.

Henrys Deal, Race 3 (3:39 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 3/1

Henrys Deal will be looking to pull off the upset in her debut. The filly has had two superb efforts at Lone Star in June and will look for that to translate on to the racetrack. Jockey Ramon Vazquez has few peers at this track.

Betting favorite Comic (3/5) last finished as the runner-up at Belmont in September of 2019, posting a figure of 86 in that one. It's only a matter of time before the maiden comes away with a convincing victory. The odds favor her in this race. Awesome Galaxy (10/1) should be in the mix after a career-best 67 effort here two weeks ago. Her form is trending in the right direction. Street Dazzle (8/1) deserves consideration.

Potomac, Race 6 (5:15 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 3/1

Betting favorite Potomac is projected to finish second by numberFire's models, but I like his odds in this one. Trained by Steven Asmussen, who's consistently one of the best, the five-year-old has a great chance on these terms. A three-time winner at Belmont, Potomac will be ridden by jockey Stewart Elliott, which bodes very well.

Social Misfit (7/2) has won four of his last eight and has placed top-three in all but one of those. The gelding has won 26.8 percent of his career efforts and will be jockeyed by the aforementioned David Cabrera. Vaporman (6/1) is in excellent form and should merit consideration. Our model likes Poderoso Equs (15/1) to win Race 6, but I'm not as excited by his chances. The gelding did win an allowance event here a year ago.

Lookin Sharp, Race 9 (6:45 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 8/1

Our model likes Lookin Sharp to place first in this allowance event, and I can see why. The filly had an impressive win at Oaklawn Park in March with a speed figure of 84, though her recent outing at Lone Park a month ago was just mediocre. However, she has since had multiple top-notch efforts here and jockey Stewart Elliott could help guide her to victory.

Betting favorite Rizzi's Honors (3/1) is bound to be well in the mix. The mare will be ridden by Ramon Vazquez, who has won 20 percent of his races here in 2020. Longshot Appolina (12/1) is coming off a February win and could easily place well here. Kona Katie (9/2) should be thereabouts after winning her last outing at Sam Houston. Blingin' Rose (10/1) should not be discounted.
