Thistledown Horse Racing Picks for Monday 6/22/20

Thistledown is hosting eight races on Monday afternoon. Which horses should you place a wager on at FanDuel Racing?

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 12:50 p.m. EST, we have eight races at Thistledown. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

(I will be referencing Equibase's Speed Figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions)

C K's Lucky Duck, Race 1 (12:50 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 8/5

We're not exactly looking at a field of Belmont Stakes contenders in Race 1, with most competitors topping out with speed figures in the low 40s at best.

C K's Lucky Duck is the lone exception, posting speed figures of 50 and 64 in two career races. The downside is he hasn't raced since May of last year, but the gelding has performed well in workouts this month. Although numberFire's model doesn't see the gelding cracking the podium, it's hard to ignore the numbers.

But if the layoff worries you, then Mobil Magic (8/5) is the logical pivot as the co-favorite. Jockey Luis Raul Rivera is one of this track's best (second in earnings last year) and is rocking a 22% win rate and 43% top-three rate in 2020. numberFire likes Mobil Magic to finish third.

Reinvestedinterest, Race 6 (3:20 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 5/2

Much like Race 1, we don't find particularly high speed figures in Race 6, so Reinvestedinterest's 47 in his debut earlier this month stands out as a winning mark. Our model agrees, picking the colt as today's winner.

Something Sacred (3/1) has previously shown comparable speed figures in the mid-40s but hasn't hit that level in three straight races, with two being flat-out duds (21, 39, 22). Similarly, Macadoooo Kid (7/2) managed a career-best 52 speed figure at the end of last year, but since that milestone, he's hit the 40s once in five 2020 races.

Based on that competition, we have to like our chances with Reinvestedinterest today.

Dare Day, Race 7 (3:50 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 1/1

As the odds suggest, the field is going to have a tough time besting Dare Day, who is the class of Race 7. No other horse in this race has ever achieved a triple-digit speed figure, something he's achieved in four of seven career outings. Not surprisingly, the results have been quite positive (1-4-2-1-5-1-1).

Dare Day was slightly below that level in his 2020 debut 11 days ago (88 speed figure), but he still pulled out the win, and that form would likely still be enough to come away victorious. If all that wasn't enough, the aforementioned Luis Raul Rivera will be his rider, too.
