Tampa Bay Downs Horse Racing Picks for Wednesday 6/17/20
With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.
Starting at 12:25 p.m. EST, we have eight races at Tampa Bay Downs. Using our numberFire projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.
As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.
I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.
Cliffy, Race 1
FD Odds: 7/2
The day begins at Tampa Bay at 12:25 EST with a 7 furlong low claiming race and the trainer Munoz for race favorite Silent Mischief (3/1) has won just 2 of 62 races this year. FanDuel Racing gives him a 25% chance to win.
The top two choices at Daily Horse Picks are Ed’s Dog (9/2) and Cliffy (7/2) breaking from the outside No. 8 post. Cliffy strings five races together, a sign of good health, and was the beaten favorite last out May 30 finishing fourth. Expect a better result.
Ed’s Dog has won 1 race in 40 starts with his best finish in his last six starts a front-running runner-up result in February going longer with a year-to-date best 82 speed figure.
J’s Twostep Beauty, Race 2
FD Odds: 3/1
A 1 1/16 mile turf test for fillies and mares completes the Daily Double. J’s Twostep Beauty (3/1) ran a solid race over this turf course last out May 29, making the lead from the far outside and holding it into the stretch before faltering late. That was against better claimers than these and she can hold on this trip.
Cha Cha Heel’s (9/2) has yet to hit the board in five starts this year, and finished three lengths behind our top choice last race. The top pick at numberfire is Animauxselle (6/1), who ran wide last race and missed the board but finished second at a short price two races back in April.
Exchequer, Race 6
FD Odds: 9/2
Race 6 is an Allowance race for older horses going 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Leading trainer Bennett may have the controlling speed with Exchequer (9/2), who won a claiming race on the front end in March and then finished fourth with a good speed rating of 85 in Allowance company.
The top pick at numberFire in this 10-horse field is So High (7/2), making his U.S. debut for trainer Jonathan Thomas. Include. Mighty Ghost (4/1) was just scratched this morning in this competitive race but had a pair of 90-plus speed figures his last two races coming off the pace to win two back.
Felix the Fox (3/1) broke his maiden June 1 in this thirteenth start romping by 7 lengths. Trainer brings him right back and should be included as the top pick at FanDuel Racing.
